Beechwood Laboratories is a UKAS accredited Food Testing lab based in Ballyclare with close access to all the main routes within Northern Ireland. We recently celebrated our 36th year in business and since the beginning have tried to offer a great service where the customer comes first.

With both Microbiological and Chemical testing carried out on site we are a one stop shop for all your testing needs. We currently service customers right across the province and beyond in every sector of the food and feed sector.

We aren’t just a food testing facility as we like to work directly with customers to help improve their food safety and food quality agenda. Our experience, technical and industry knowledge puts us in a unique position to service our customers’ needs and we are constantly striving to improve our customer engagement and support systems.

Beechwood Laboratories was founded in 1984 by the late George Alan Gardner MBE PhD FIFST and its reputation has steadily grown within the NI market since then. The business still remains in the Gardner family with both of Alans daughters, Julie and Lisa, still actively involved in ensuring the customers experience the same level of communication and support that has always been key to Beechwood’s success.

The senior team is strengthened by our very experienced Laboratory Manager Alan McMorris who has been managing the laboratory function for over 30 years. His attention to detail with respect to legislation, processes and the UKAS function has ensured the laboratory is unrivalled in the quality and accuracy of its testing methodologies.

The newest member of the team is Dr Aidan Wilson who studied as a Microbiologist at Queens University. After 5 years managing Microbiology laboratories in Northern Ireland he moved to the mainland UK as Technical Director, Operations Director and Managing Director of some large food production businesses. He brings with him a wealth of knowledge and experience of the real factory environment and the everyday challenges food businesses face and is able to support our customers in their investigations and improvements.


Beechwood Laboratories is unique in Northern Ireland as it can carry out both Microbiological and Chemistry testing under one roof so we are a one stop business for all your testing requirements. The majority of our routine testing methods are UKAS accredited and we use traditional methods in the majority of cases. We collaborate with our customers to ensure the testing suites we design with you meet your needs. This helps minimise cost and provides the best information to support your business.

Beechwood Laboratories can also analyse a range of water samples for both Microbiological and Chemical content.

We Know What We’re Doing

Our Food Chemistry team has many years experience in supporting food businesses in the chemical nature of their food and feedstuffs. We provide a range of common testing methods to meet our customer needs including Group 1 & 2 Nutritional Analysis and more specialist chemical testing including Sulphur dioxide, Nitrates and Nitrites. We are able to guide our customers through the complex food labelling process to ensure your product meets legislative requirements.
